Atukula Upma /Rice Flakes Upma


Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup poha / rice flakes (thick)
  • 1 potato, cubed
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 green chillies
  • 1 tbsp peanuts (optional)
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • A large pinch of turmeric
  • A pinch of hing
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Channa dal
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • few curry leaves
  • chopped cilantro
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)

Method:

  • Rinse poha and leave it to drain.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, channa dal, urad dal and fry till dal turns golden brown.
  • Add the green chillies, curry leaves and fry for a minute.
  • Add onions, potatoes and fry till they become soft.
  • Add turmeric powder, salt and drained poha and mix well.
  • Remove and add lemon juice and give it a quick mix.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
